Setting off to Netherfield

Elizabeth Bennet is going to get her petticoat "six inched deep in mud" just so that she can visit her sister at Netherfield.      http://www.etsy.com/listing/91525179/setting-off-to-netherfield-an-origina

Persuasion collage and Valentine's Day cards.

I just finished this collage yesterday.  I wanted to show Captain Wentworth in suspense as he waits for Anne to read his letter, if you look close you can see she is holding it in her hand.  Working on the different layers of this project was really fun, I started with antique gold layer, then a layer of turquoise, crackle medium and white paint.  The letter itself is done in black ink and swirls of gold ink added a pretty finishing touch.  Captain Wentworth and Anne were painted on watercolor paper and then cut out and pasted on.

Also, these personalized and hand painted cards are now available just in time for Valentine's Day.

"Not handsome enough to tempt me..."

Originally I was planning to make these Mr. Knightley and Emma, because I would like to complete a series of all of Jane Austen's characters, but the expression on Mr.Darcy's face was just too Darcy-ish.

Another little watercolor I have been working on this week.  Jane Eyre on her visit to see dying aunt Reed at Gateshead.

Fanny's Musings

This is the Fanny painting I have been working over the holidays.  I love that quote from Mansfield Park and I tried to make the dress look like the one described in the book, the one Fanny wears to the dinner at the parsonage, with "shiny little spots" - as Edmund puts it.

I have been working on a custom order this week.  Both are remakes of older work, and they were really fun to paint again.  Both might be available as a print and a bookmark soon.
Just an interesting bit of information on my original inspiration for these pieces were Elinor from Emma Thompson 1995 version, if you watch the part of the movie when Elinor and Edward walk down a wooded path in Norland, you will see that the lady in blue is similar to Elinor.  The inspiration for the bookmark was a scene from Miss Austen Regrets, where she stands on the little boat dock looking at the pond.  She looked so lovely and melancholy too, I just had to paint it.

Slow holidays.

I have decided to start series of Regency fashion drawings, so far I have 1812 and 1807 fashions, and I plan to eventually cover all the years of the Regency period, from 1800-1825.
Right now I am working on a painting of Fanny Price and it should be coming out soon.
